  • Author Talk: My Summers with a Serial Killer. As the lonely child of a single, working mother, Liza Rodman found solace with her babysitter, a gentle handyman who made her feel safe.  Decades later, she learned he had murdered numerous women.  She and her award-winning co-author, Jennifer Jordan, tell her tale in The Babysitter, the culmination of her obsession with the case.  This virtual event will be hosted by the Tewksbury Public Library and co-sponsored by the Wayland Public Library.  Register through our Events menu.  Wednesday, July 13 at 7 pm.
  • Author Talk: Getting Things Done. David Allen’s 35 years as a management consultant and executive coach has earned him worldwide and Forbes’s recognition as one of the top five executive coaches in the U.S.  His New York Times-bestselling book, subtitled The Art of Stress-Free Productivity, has sold millions of copies and has been published in thirty languages.  Its “GTD” methodology has become a global phenomenon, taught by training companies in more than 90 countries.  Register through our Events menu.  Thursday, July 14 at noon.
  • Author Talk: The Other Madisons. According to the oral history passed down through her family, writer and retired pediatrician Bettye Kearse is a descendant of Coreen, an enslaved woman, and President James Madison, Coreen’s half-brother as well as her enslaver.  Some 30 years in the making, The Other MadisonsThe Lost History of a President’s Black Family is both a personal family history and an homage to millions of silenced, invisible African-Americans.  This virtual event will be hosted by the Ashland Public Library and co-sponsored by the Wayland Public Library.  Register through our Events menu.  Thursday, July 14 at 1 p.m.
  • Magazine Survey. Please use the brief survey on our website to tell us how you use our magazine collection and what you’d like to see in it.  Thanks!
  • Improve Your Work with LinkedIn Learning. Though it’s no longer called Lynda.com, this terrific instructional platform still offers a wealth of instruction courses that can help you get the job you want, or enhance the one you have.  New content includes Overcome Overthinking, Building Resilience, and Managing Anxiety in the Workplace.  You’ll also find collections of courses especially curated for your particular skill set.  Plus software instruction, management training, and much more.  Just go to Online Resources on our home page and scroll down to Instruction and Careers.
  • CD Sort-of Giveaway. To gain space (and because they don’t circulate much anymore), we’re heavily cutting our music CD collection, especially classical.  Before they get donated to Savers, come in and pick out some for yourself.  There’s no actual charge for them, though the Friends of the Library would greatly appreciate a donation.  Just ask for Andy and he’ll bring out whatever’s not already in the book sale area downstairs.  You’ll get some great music and we’ll know it found a good home.

SEEKING VOLUNTEER CODING TEACHERS.  The Wayland Library Girls Who Code Club is looking for volunteer facilitators for the 2022-2023 academic year. Affiliated with the national Girls Who Code organization (girlswhocode.com) and its mission of closing the gender gap in technology, the Wayland club brings together girls for hands-on learning about code and technology. The Wayland library plans to have two clubs: one for girls in grades 3-5 and one for girls in grades 6 and up. Enthusiasm for working with the girls is required; technical skill is helpful but not necessary, especially if you are willing to learn along with them. If you are interested, or would like to know more, please contact Head of Youth Services, Pam McCuen, at pmccuen@minlib.net
