ADULT SERVICES

  • Regular Summer Hours, Children’s Room Open. We’re now on our usual summer schedule: Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m.  Upstairs, downstairs, all around (except for the meeting room).  We ask that you mask for everyone’s well-being, and try to limit your visit to 45 minutes.  Masks are required for children 2-12.  Come on in—it’ll be good to see you.
  • Adult Craft: Felt Llama. Learn how to needle felt wool with Pop Up Art School.  Create a whimsical llama (with or without its spectacles) on a piece of felt stretched on an embroidery hoop.  We’ll guide you through the process step by step; you’ll find that needle felting is easy and relaxing.  Sign up for the Zoom link through our Events menu starting August 1, and select a curbside kit pickup time. Limit 15 people.  Ages 16+.  Monday, August 9 at 7 p.m.
  • Experts in Arthritis. Learn the latest ways to manage pain and fatigue, how to actively manage your disease, and the importance of nutrition and exercise in treating arthritis.  Barbara Viens DNP, RN, NEA-BC, ONC has to close to 30 years of nursing experience, and is certified as an orthopedic nurse.  Her talk will cover all forms of arthritis, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile arthritis.  Sponsored by the US Bone and Joint Initiative.  Register through our Events menu.  Monday, August 23 at 7 p.m.
  • Many New Things. Our Library of Things just got three excellent additions.  With the Rapitest 4-Way Soil Analyzer, you can test your garden or houseplant soil for fertility (nitrogen/phosphorous/potash,) light, moisture, and pH.  The Benjamin Moore Color Preview Fan Deck will help with your decorating and paint selection decisions.  And you can investigate the plants, insects and microbes in your environment with the IQ Crew 52-Piece Microscope Set 

YOUTH SERVICES

FOR BABIES, TODDLERS AND PRESCHOOLERS

  • *Outdoor Storytimes with Ms. Carly. Join Ms. Carly for an outdoor storytime! Children and their caregivers will listen to stories, sing songs, and perform fun rhymes and movements. We will meet on the green lawn behind the library. For babies through preschool age children, with caregivers. Registration required.  Face masks are required for children ages 2+. We encourage attendees to bring along a picnic blanket or a lawn chair. This event is weather permitting. You can register here or from our online eventkeeper calendar. Tuesdays,  August 17 and August 24 10:30 a.m.
  • *Outside Storytimes with Ms. Pam! Join Ms. Pam for stories, songs, puppets, and activities OUTSIDE on the lawn behind the library. For ages 2.5 to 5 years with an adult. You can register here or from our online eventkeeper calendar. Thursday, August 12 at 9:30 a.m.

FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

  • *Zoo Tales: Outdoor Storytime with Ms. Elise. Ms. Elise will read picture books that feature zoo animals. For ages 4 and up with an adult. Please register HERE or online from our Eventkeeper calendar. Wednesday, August 18, 3:00 p.m. 

*Outdoor programs meet on the green lawn behind the library. Face masks are encouraged for all participants. We will assist in maintaining social distancing but encourage attendees to bring along a picnic blanket or a lawn chair. Registration is required. Outdoor programming is weather permitting. SUMMER READING

  • Summer Reading Program for children in grades pre-K to Grade 5 wraps up this week! The theme for this year’s Summer Reading Program for children in grades pre-K to Grade 5 is Tails & Tales. We are bringing you a blend of virtual and in-person (outside) activities featuring animals, real and imaginary. We are also offering in-person outdoor STEM and craft programs, scavenger hunts, and weekly take and make crafts. Children keep track of their reading online or on paper logs and earn virtual badges for time reading, for attending programs, and for completing fun craft and STEM challenges. Every child who registers can pick up a goody bag at the library. Participants will also earn raffle tickets for prizes!   • Summer Reading Program for Teens wraps up this week! Teens keep track of their reading online and earn badges for books read, for writing reviews, for attending programs, and for completing take and make crafts. Teens will also earn raffle tickets for prizes!  Register for the Teen Summer Reading Program by August 15 at Waylandlibrary.Beanstack.org.
