ADULT SERVICES

  • Virtual Trivia Night. Kick off your Memorial Day Weekend, such as it is, with trivial fun.  We’ll meet using Zoom and answer using either Google Forms or pen, paper, and the good ol’ honor system.  Play on your own, bring your team of quarantine-mates, or gather your friends on a virtual team via text chain, gchat, or mental telepathy–whatever works for you.  Click on Events at our home page, scroll down, and sign up.  Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m.
  • Hoopla Bonus Borrows Extended to May 31. More than 1,600 ebooks, audiobooks, movies, music, comics and more that you can check out without affecting your monthly limit and at no cost to us.  Browse by category, then click any Bonus Borrow item to find a link to the entire collection.  Speaking of Hoopla….
  • No-Wait Audiobooks on Hoopla. You really want a book to listen to, but everything on Overdrive has a wait list.  Hoopla to the rescue!  The titles are not the newest but there’s a tremendous selection and they’re always available.  Look for books by your favorite authors, or browse the categories.  If you don’t have an account, click on the Hoopla icon at waylandlibrary.org, or download the free app to your device.  Then find something you like and start enjoying it right away.
  • Database of the Month: Access World News by Newsbank. Access World News not only covers a vast array of topics and issues from more than 10,000 news sources. It also arranges articles in easy-to-use subject headings, and allows you to create a folder to store selected articles.  Special Reports take an in-depth look at important subjects, and Hot Topics gathers together the most current articles on important research areas. Log in from home and explore this fabulous resource.  Wayland residents only.
  • Ukulele Club Keeps Stringing Along. Join us on Zoom for some musical fun!  We’re learning some new songs and biding our time until we can share our talents and joy with our fellow Waylanders in person.  Email mark@markpeterhughes.com for the Zoom info to join us Monday nights at 7 p.m.
  • Let’s Get You Something Good to Read. Now you’ve got all this time on your hands, but nothing to read.  Our crack reference staff can remedy that unacceptable situation with BookMatch, our online reader’s advisory service.  From our home page, click on Services, then Your Next Great Read, then BookMatch.  Fill out the form, and in a few days, we’ll get back to you with tailor-made recommendations.  If you’re not an ebook reader, just hang onto the list until we open the building again.\

YOUTH SERVICES

  • Weekly Facebook Live Storytimes. Join Ms. Carly for a Facebook Live storytime on the Wayland Public Library’s facebook page. Children and their caregivers will listen to stories, sing songs, and perform fun rhymes and movements.  Tuesdays, May 12, 19 and 26 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Weekly Sing-alongs posted on Facebook. Check out our Facebook page or Youtube channel for prerecorded sing-alongs created by Ms. Laura, Ms. Janet, and others on our Youth Services team. Check out our Facebook page on Fridays, May 8, 15, 22 and 29 to see the new posts. (Or anytime to see what has already been posted.)
  • Weekly Craft programs posted on Facebook. Children’s Librarian Elise Katz will demonstrate easy crafts you can do at home with your children. These short videos will be posted on the Wayland Facebook page on Wednesdays, May 13, 20 and 27 at 3 p.m.
  • Storyvine moves to Zoom. Join Ms. Pam for stories, fingerplays, puppets, and songs. Contact Pam at pmccuen@minlib.net in advance if you and your child would like to get on the Zoom  invite list. For caregivers and children ages 2 to 5. Thursdays, May 7, 14, 21 and 28 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Bedtime Story Time. Pop on your pajamas, grab a favorite stuffed animal, and tune in for a live bedtime story with Ms. Carly! The live story time will take place on the Wayland Facebook page. Kids and caregivers can cozy up for simple songs, stretches, and stories that are perfect for settling down at bedtime. Thursday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m.
  • Kids Yoga moves to FaceBook! Sonia Gomez from Serfi Yoga will give a yoga class for children, toddles to age 5. Her class will stream on the Wayland Facebook page on Thursday, May 14, at 1:30 p.m.
  • Parent/Child 4th/5th  Grade Book Club on Zoom. We will be discussing Witch Boy by Molly Ostertag. Witch Boy is available on Libby and on Hoopla. If you would like to join our online meeting, contact Pam in advance at pmccuen@minlib.net to get on the Zoom Group invite list. For 4th/5th graders with a parent. Tuesday, May 12 at 7 p.m.
  • 6th Grade Book Club on Zoom. We will be discussing Most Dangerous by Steve Sheinkin. Most Dangerous is available on Libby. If you would like to join the discussion, please email Pam at pmccuen@minlib.net in advance to get on the Zoom Group invite list. For 6th graders. Wednesday, May 13 at 7 p.m.
  • DIY Tween Craft: Name Art Challenge. Have you seen the name art challenge on TikTok? We have, and we’re about to try it! Come see how we do or join in with us. All you need is a pen, a piece of paper, and some markers or colored pencils. A short video will be posted on Wayland Library’s FB page and on our Youtube page on Thursday, May 14 at 3 p.m. (Tune in at 3 p.m …or watch later.)
  • Teen Crafternoon: DIY Mini Notebook. Looking to make your notes more fun? Make a mini notebook, where you can jot down anything that’s on your mind or doodle away to your heart’s content. Just grab a piece of paper and some pens! A short video will be posted on Wayland Library’s FB page and on our Youtube page on Thursday, May 28 at 3 p.m. (Tune in at 3 pm. or watch later.)
  • Daily Blog Post for Activity of the Day: A Little Something. Check out the Wayland Library webpage every weekday for daily activities to do with your children during this extended at home time. You will find the blog on the scrolling feed on the front page of the Wayland Library webpage. Feel free to read past posts as well…there are many ideas up there for you.
