Two Waves of Relief
High Schoolers’ Trip Filled; Adult Volunteers Still Need for
Wayland To Waveland Projects
Eighteen Wayland High School students will be on the first Wave of Relief from Wayland (MA) to Waveland (MS) during the Columbus Day weekend. They will be accompanied by eight adults, including a co-chair of the Wayland-to-Waveland Steering committee, two Wayland Selectmen, and two Wayland police officers.
The students will be working on several assignments throughout Waveland, MS, the sister city to Wayland, MA that was devastated in Hurricane Katrina last year.
The Wayland to Waveland committee now turns its attention to the two-week effort led by local builder Peter Bachman October 12 thru the 26. Adults from town are needed to work on the three properties to be rebuilt, one from the ground up! Specific skills are NOT needed! A willingness to help is all.

Bachman and his crew will lead adult volunteers in building a new home for Waveland resident Ms. Melanie Keretas. In addition, Ms. Melanie’s next door neighbor, Ms. Hazel Tracey, will receive a new roof and windows. And third, Waveland resident Scott Blackwell will also receive newly installed windows. If there is time and enough volunteers, other repair projects will be done as well.

Fundraising Effort Starting
Also this week, Wayland residents should watch their mailbox for the first fundraising campaign that will help with the current and future projects in Waveland. This fall’s effort to help Waveland residents is still only the beginning. Funds will be needed for years to help Wavelanders recover.
