High School Impacts
-
Elimination of all
Physical Education programs for grades 10-12 and
physical activities for 9th graders.
-
Significantly reduced
access to teachers for conferences and college
recommendations as four department secretaries
(jointly supporting English, Math Social Studies,
Foreign Language and Science), one guidance
secretary and the athletics secretary will be cut.
The loss of the guidance secretary specifically
means less college application support. The
athletics secretary plays a huge role in supporting
the athletic director in managing over 50 sports
teams with coordination of buses, scheduling
practices and games and more.
-
17 Clubs eliminated,
representing over half the co-curricular activities,
affecting around 280 students. Cuts include these
clubs: Academic Decathlon, Amnesty International,
Asian Cultures, Business, Language, Literary
Magazine, Math, Media Center, Mock Trial, Model
U.N., Intervention Team, Science Team, Students
Against Drunk Driving (SADD), Student Awareness
Program (SAP), Study Abroad, and Ultimate Frisbee.
-
Deep cuts to youth
substance abuse prevention programs that will impact
ability to get matching funds from the state.
-
No High School Musical
-
Sports teams eliminated:
9th grade baseball and softball, 9th grade girls'
and boys' basketball and golf.
-
Sports teams affected -
loss of assistant coaches for cross country, tennis,
swimming, wrestling, winter and spring track. Plus
swim team members will need to pay additional fees
to offset pool rental.
-
2 library assistants
will be cut, reducing support for students
conducting research and for teachers compiling class
resources.
-
Lose 16 administrative
summer work days - less curriculum development time
which is used to improve existing programs and build
new ones.
