Wayland to Waveland High School Student Trip, March 1-4

Wayland to Waveland invites WHS juniors and seniors to join us on a 4-day trip to our sister city, Waveland, Mississippi, to participate in the Great American Cleanup Day on March 3. The national organization Keep America Beautiful has selected Waveland as one of several American cities on which to focus cleanup and restoration efforts. We will join about 1000 volunteers from across America to be part of a nationally promoted Community Improvement Program, completing the beautification and rebuilding of 4 prominent sites in Waveland including the Veteran’s Memorial and the city’s ballpark.

We will be departing Boston on Sunday, March 1 and returning on Wednesday, March 4. The cost is $500 per student which will include airfare, accommodations, transportation, and all meals. The trip is limited to 20 students and 5 parent chaperones on a first come-first served basis. Wayland to Waveland “Blitz Build”, March 16-30

Beginning Monday, March 16 Wayland to Waveland will begin an ambitious building project of a 1400 square foot home for a single mom and her family. Skilled workers and adult volunteers are needed during a 2 week period to jumpstart the construction of this house. To comply with new flood zoning laws, the house will be constructed 12 feet above ground. Wayland to Waveland will be responsible for the framing, roofing, siding, and rough-in of electrical and plumbing, and if time and skills allow, we will continue with the interior finishes. Once we are done, other volunteer groups will finish the construction.
