For those who may have known Erik Blom, a Wayland native and graduate of WHS Class of 1978, he died quite suddenly last Thursday. Sorry to send bad news so impersonally, but wanted to be sure those who knew him got word. The following obit. gives details regarding services tonight and tomorrow.

Wayland: Erik S. Blom, 47, died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at Emerson Hospital in Concord after being stricken at his residence in Wayland.
He was born in Waltham on April 11, 1960 the son of Sture R. Blom of Wayland and the late Phyllis C. (Dragon) Blom who died in October of 1990.

Besides his father, Sture R. Blom of Wayland, Erik is survived by his two children Ashley E. Blom and Andrew S. Blom both of Hatfield. He was the brother of Karen J. Blom and her husband Bruce D. Lessels of Buckland; Jeffrey C. Blom and his wife Carolyn T. Blom of Wayland and Kristin P. Snow and her husband Alan H. Snow of Ashland. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Erik has been a longtime resident of Wayland and previously resided in Hatfield. He graduated from Wayland High School with the Class of 1978 and received his BS in Environmental Planning from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in 1982 and continued his studies in Urban Planning at the graduate school of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He has been associated for many years as an Information Technology Manager with ADP, IDG, Dairy Mart and John Hancock and for the past several years with Physicians for Human Rights in Cambridge. Additionally, he was the owner and founder of ESB Computer Services as a consultant in the Metrowest area. He also had been a member of the Wayland Business Association. Erik enjoyed fishing, reading, hiking, camping and kayaking and being in the outdoors. He will be fondly remembered by his family for his love and devotion to his two children as well as his nieces and nephews. He was the happiest when he was with his family and friends for gatherings.

Visitations will be held on Monday, September 24, 2007 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM ONLY at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (OFF ROUTE 30), Wayland.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service celebrating Erik’s life on Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at 2:00 pm at the First Parish Unitarian Church, Route 20 and Route 27, Wayland Center with a reception to follow in the Vestry of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts of donation in Erik’s memory may be sent to Physicians for Human Rights, 2 Arrow Street Cambridge, MA 02138 and would be appreciated by the family.
