If you have been using Facebook, there is more bad news:
Facebook now says that data about 87 million people was captured by Cambridge Analytica and other companies -- without their knowledge or approval.

It is also important to know that Facebook tracks users even when they have logged off and are not on Facebook! They track much of everything you do and say on the Web. Plus their apps have been tracking phone calls and text messages sent on user's Android phones!

So if you are a Facebook user, the data they collected -- and the data sold to / stolen by Cambridge Analytica and other Facebook partners -- is much more extensive than what you added to your Facebook page.

Here are a few stories about how Facebook has been tracking everything users do:

If you want to find out everything that Facebook logged about you, download a copy:

  1. Click at the top right of any Facebook page and select 'Settings'
  2. Click 'Download a copy of your Facebook data' at the bottom of General Account Settings
  3. Click 'Start My Archive'

Because this download file contains your personal information, keep it secure and be careful when storing, sending or uploading it to any other services.

So, are you ready to delete your Facebook account and use a VPN to stop "cookie" tracking and "web beacons"? Facebook isn't the only company tracking what you do on the Web. Think about what Verizon and Comcast, for example, know about you. That's why a VPN has become a very good idea; VPNs encrypt everything you send and receive via the Web, and block many tracking functions.
