Wayland Public Schools Takes Major Step to Improve Computer Security

Finally, some good news about computer security to protect student and family data at Wayland Public Schools! The latest Town budget includes licenses for the HEAT patch management / endpoint security system, which will cover every WPS computer and WHS student laptop. Wayland's new IT Director, Jorge Pazos, will also be responsible for the patching process at WPS as soon as HEAT is up and running.

This is the same patch management system and centralized management that McGladrey / RSM strongly recommended after missing security patches led to breaches in the Wayland Treasurer's Office in January of 2015 -- and the near loss of over $1 million of Wayland taxpayer money.

Many thanks to everyone who contacted the Wayland School Committee and Town management to express concern about the recurring problems. This is an important step forward.
