WSCP Debuts Middle School Computer Class

Computer-savvy Wayland Middle School students will have a chance to bring their skills to a new level through a “Computer Cadets” course being debuted in March by Wayland School Community Programs (WSCP).

While helping individual students build on existing skills, the eight-week course is designed to create a core of trained “Computer Cadets.” Their skills will enable them to act as “Junior Computer Technicians,” capable of assisting Wayland Middle School teachers and fellow students.

The class will run for eight Wednesdays from 1:30-3pm in the middle school and is being taught by Ted Charrette. The fee is $150. Dates are March 10–May 5, 2010.

“This course is being developed in direct response to our increasingly computer-centric world,” explained WSCP Director Brian Jones. “Students will learn about operating systems and functions as well as computer hardware maintenance,” he added.
In addition, the course will cover HTML programming and strategies, Google Docs, and several social networking sites and programs.

Overall, the goal is to build on what students already know and to bring their skills to a level high enough to qualify them as “Computer Cadets” in the Wayland Middle School.
