WaylandCares is pleased to announce its February Community Read.

From Binge to Blackout is written by mother and son Chris and Toren Volkmann as each recounts their own family's experience with youth alcoholism.  Toren, a good scholar and three season athlete, writes about his experiences from his first drink at age 14 to facing the reality of his alcoholism at the age of 24. Chris writes about receiving that ominous telephone call from her son and chronicles the seemingly isolated incidents that, with hindsight, reflect the pattern of teen substance abuse that she and her husband did not or could not recognize as it was happening.

All parents and high school students are encouraged to read this book and join the discussion.   Dr. Dossie Kahn of Wayland Youth & Family Services and Ann Drouilhet, LICSW, LMFT, will facilitate this VERY INTERACTIVE CONVERSATION about the the issues raised in this book. Wayland Public Library has access to many copies of From Binge to Blackout through the Minuteman System or you can buy it here through Amazon.

The program will take place on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 7:15pm at the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Wayland.

The Community Read program is sponsored by WaylandCares, Wayland Youth & Family Services, and the Wayland Public Library
