Music groups being formed to promote creative team building.

Calling all middle school age musicians! Are you looking to be a part of a music group outside of school? Want to form a rock or jazz band, or a guitar duo but don't know anyone else who does? Need another guitar player or drummer to complete your current band but can't find one? Mark your calendars for an Open House January 29,, 2010 between 3:30 and 5PM for this year’s first gathering of Teamwork Through Tunes at Russell's Garden Center (www.russellsgardencenter.com), Rt. 20 in Wayland. The goal of Teamwork Through Tunes (T3) is to assist like-minded musicians in grades 6 – 8 in forming their own music group. Through TTT you will have the chance to meet other teens, match up your musical styles (from "head banging" rock to "unplugged" style) and form your band. Refreshments will be served. Last year, T3’s inaugural year, two bands formed and the kids have been having a blast together. This year we plan to expand on that, and also offer workshops with professional and experienced musicians.

Whether or not you are already active in school programs, by playing with a small group you will learn how different individual skills and skill levels can be utilized to reach a common goal. You will revel in the cheering of your friends and classmates when they hear you performing at a dance or T3 concert. T3 musicians will also learn that their talents can help others. Concerts will be planned in the future featuring T3 bands with the purpose of raising money for local charitable organizations and they will be encouraged to offer their services for local events. Adult and high school age mentors will be available to assist bands with the creative process and to help keep them focused on their goals. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend a portion of the January 29 open house. Future meetings will occur four times per year. Russell's will be open for shopping and browsing as well during the meetings.

Teamwork Through Tunes is sponsored by the YES Committee (Youth Empowerment and Support) of Sudbury United Methodist Church, comprised of parents representing Wayland, Sudbury, Weston, Stow, Maynard and Lincoln. The mission of YES is to empower adolescents with the tools and the confidence to make smart and healthy choices. The organizer of Teamwork Through Tunes is a parent of two high school daughters and a teen mentor, whose first band formed in 7th grade. He is currently having the time of his life as a member of a local classic rock band.
