Wayland Residents Run Boston Marathon for a Cause Close to Their Hearts

Wayland residents, Kerry Peterson and Louise Corliss, are requesting your generous support as they raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Alzheimer’s Association, MA/NH Chapter. On April 19 Kerry and Louise will set out in Hopkinton to run the 114th Boston Marathon. As charity runners the goal is not simply to complete the 26.2 mile run from Hopkinton to Boston, but to represent a cause so close to their hearts.

Kerry Peterson, of Old Connecticut Path, will run her first marathon for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in honor of her husband, Hans Peterson, who is now 10 years cancer free. The Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge took its first steps in 1990 as one of the inaugural organizations in the official B.A.A. Boston Marathon® charity program. In 20 years, the DFMC has raised $43 million for the Claudia Adams Barr Program and its initiatives to better understand, treat, and, ultimately, cure cancer. The DFMC directs 100% of funds raised to the Barr Program, which enables scientists at the leading edge of discovery to achieve better cure rates and to enhance patients' quality of life. Donations can be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute on behalf of Kerry by visiting her webpage:   http://www.runDFMC.org/2010/kerryp

Louise Corliss, of West Plain Street, will run her first marathon for the Alzheimer’s Association, MA/NH Chapter in honor of her mother. Louise’s mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2008. The mission of the Alzheimer’s Association is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research, to provide and enhance care and support for all affected, and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
