Community forums to discuss affluence and substance abuse

Wayland Town Crier 1/21/10: Community forums to discuss affluence and substance abuse.  Wayland Cares, Wayland Youth and Family Services, and the Wayland Library are sponsoring two community book discussions in January and February aimed at High School students and parents of "tweens" and teens.  The first event will be on Monday, January 25 at 7:15 p.m. at Trinitarian Congregational Church in Wayland, when a panel of experts in adolescent development will discuss "The Price of Privilege" by Madeline Levine, PhD. This book examines the real causes of depression, substance abuse, and anxiety disorders in teenagers from loving, affluent families.  The second discussion will be on Wednesday, Feb. 24, again in the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Wayland at 7:15 p.m., focusing on "From Binge to Blackout," which chronicles one family’s experience with teen substance abuse leading to alcoholism. This family is from a community similar to Wayland.
