Construction of the Wayland Community Pool (WCP) is scheduled to begin in March 2010 at the site of the Wayland Town Pool, which will close for good in March. To date, over $1.4 million has been raised through private donations. The total cost to build the new pool is $2.5 million. Designs for the WCP include 10 lanes with a connected diving area suitable for synchronized swimming, water polo, scuba diving and other aquatic programs. A removable roof structure will allow summer use. The new design provides a larger pool deck (than existing pool) for more spectators. The budget includes renovating and reusing as much of the existing facility as possible including the locker rooms, office space and multi-purpose room for parties, classes and dry land exercise.  Pool passes (both year-round and summer) and rental fees will sustain a steady income for the pool to meet operational costs.

According to Jeanne Downs, Chair of the WCP Fundraising Party Committee, “We’re expecting this fundraising event to be a lot of fun and a great way for people to make a contribution to the new pool. We hope our town-wide fundraising effort will reach all of those in the community who understand and appreciate the tremendous need and value of a pool, right here in Wayland”, continues Downs.

Many area businesses are generously making contributions to make the pool fundraiser a success. Food and drink donations have been pledged from Donelan’s, Roche Brothers, Whole Foods, Lavin’s Liquor and Post Road Liquors. The Wayland Business Association made a donation to the fundraiser, which will be used to buy party supplies. Kingsbury Press donated printing services for the invitations. Framingham State student, Stacey Wells, generously donated her time in designing the invitation.

Wayland Community Pool is a 501c3 Not for Profit Corporation. Donations are tax-deductible.
