Wayland voters pass new local meals tax

Wayland Town Crier 11/21/09: Wayland voters pass new local meals tax. In order to survive a struggling economy and cuts in local state aid, Wayland voters agreed to add a 0.75 percent tax on local meals in town at the second session of special Town Meeting, which will go into effect starting January 1, 2010. Selectman Michael Tichnor said the revenue estimates from the new tax range from $165,000 per year, which Tichnor pegged “conservative,” to $260,000 per year, according to the state Department of Revenue.
