    Default Data, information, knowledge, and wisdom

    In a tangent on another thread, I posited data = information = knowledge < wisdom. Not unlike what another poster suggested at the time, I like the way that "Information is Beautiful" relates the four better. I find a few of the examples under "Wisdom" to be a bit curious, however.

    More on this topic from salon.com, although the piece overall introduces a much more interesting line of thinking.

    "In 1988, Russell Ackoff, an organizational theorist, proposed a pyramid that has become really standard in many business environments. You have data at the bottom, then information, and then knowledge and then at the top, wisdom, as if wisdom is the reduced set of knowledge."

    Data = a tomato is a fruit
    Information = a tomato does not go in a fruit salad
    Wisdom = if your mother-in-law serves you a fruit salad with a tomato in it you should eat it
