ILOT establishes office at Parmenter

The Independent Living Options Taskforce (ILOT) of Wayland has announced that it has established a temporary office at Parmenter Community Health Care, 266 Cochituate Road, Wayland. The office will be staffed on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings through the end of the year.

Although ILOT has not had any public meeting since last June, the organization has been making steady progress. Over the past few months, the group has:

  1. Established a management council, which is meeting regularly. A representative from Weston has begun attending these meeting with an eye to a possible two-town venture.
  2. Identified services for seniors that are already available in Wayland.
  3. Surveyed aging-in-place options in a number of communities around the country.
  4. Set a goal for the next three months to ascertain whether there is sufficient need and interest in town for us to move ahead.
  5. Provided input for the creation of a 55+ forum on the Wayland eNews Web site.
  6. Cooperated with the library in creating a directory of services for older adults in town. The directory will be available later this year in print and online formats.

The mission of ILOT is to be a "nonprofit membership-based entity which enables its members to sustain the quality of their lives in their later years while remaining in their homes through information and services offering independence, peace of mind, social support and a sense of community."

Given the current – and rising – costs of 55-plus retirement communities and other living options for older people, aging in place offers significant economic advantages both to the individual and to the town.  For more information call ILOT at 508-358-3000, ext. 420, or e-mail ilotway@gmail.com
