Selectmen negotiate new agreement with Town Center developers

Wayland Town Crier 10/7/09: Selectmen negotiate new agreement with Town Center developers. In what one selectman described as “very difficult” discussions, the town has negotiated changes in the development agreement with Town Center developer Twenty Wayland which would reduce affordable housing to 12 rental apartments to be built above retail space and secure the first of phased payments toward the balance of a $3 million gift once the construction project is in progress. To move the Town Center project forward, voters must now approve two warrant articles at special Town Meeting on Nov. 18 – one to amend the Mixed Use Overlay District (MUOD) bylaw to change the mandated 25 percent affordable housing to 12 units, and the other to establish a Municipal Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
