Wayland could get $25M for new high school

Metrowest Daily News 10/2/09: Wayland could get $25M for new high school. The town can expect to receive up to $25 million from the state for its proposed $70.8 million high school project.

The school project comes up for a vote as a ballot question on Nov. 17, where it will need a simple majority of voters to approve. At special Town Meeting starting on Nov. 18, it will need two-thirds approval.

Voters can learn more about the Wayland High School proposal at two upcoming forums. The first will be Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Large Hearing Room of the Town Building. The second will be Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 9:30 a.m. in the School Committee conference room on the second floor of the Town Building.

The Finance Committee is calculating the annual tax impact on residents. That information will be presented to voters at the forums.

The 40 percent reimbursement figure for Wayland falls behind two other high schools approved for funding by the Massachusetts School Building Authority on Wednesday.

Plymouth was pegged for 58 percent reimbursement of its proposed $92 million project, which comes out to $46 million in state funding. Danvers can expect 56 percent reimbursement, or $2 million, of its $83 million project.
