VETERANS DAY PROGRAM

On Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. a Veterans Day program will be held at Trinitarian Congregational Church, 53 Cochituate Road, in Wayland.  This is a one hour event co-sponsored by the boys’ youth group of the church and the Wayland Veterans Committee to pay tribute to the American Veterans of the MetroWest area.

It will feature the Soldier Systems Center (Natick Labs) Army Color Guard and patriotic music by the Ocean State Chorus of Lincoln, Rhode Island.

SGM  John L. Poff, U.S. Army Soldier Systems Center will speak on “Service to Country.”

Mr. Douglas Bernard, a U.S. Army Veteran, will discuss his role as one of the first American infantry soldiers to cross into Germany during WWII.

Mr. Richard Turner, long-time Wayland resident, will speak on his Navy combat experience in the Vietnam War.

Before and after the program there will be a display of 13 original oil paintings by the late artist Edward Brodney drawn during his Army service in the South Pacific during WWII.  After the program there will be a parachute packing demonstration by US Army Riggers from Natick Army Labs.  Refreshments will be served.

At 12:00 P.M. (noon) a short Veterans ceremony will take place at the Wayland Veterans Memorial located on the Town Hall premises (located behind the church).  This brief ceremony will honor those from Wayland who have paid the ultimate price for the town and their country.
