Tickets On Sale for Wayland Business Association Fundraising Show at Vokes

See Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

One of this fall’s performances at Beatrice Herford’s Vokes Theatre will benefit the town of Wayland more than the others! The Nov. 19th presentation of Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street will be entirely for the benefit of the Wayland Business Association’s efforts to support Wayland community groups.

The money raised by the WBA at its annual fundraising events increases the group’s grants to local organizations that need financial support each year.

Last year, the WBA donated more than $8,000 to Wayland community organizations. The largest grant was to the Wayland High School Scholarship Fund ($4,000), the WBA’s major beneficiary for more than 25 years. It also gave two $1,000 grants to WayCAM and the Wayland Charitable Committee. And it gave $500 each to the Vokes Theatre, the Golden Tones, the Wayland Scouters and the Wayland Historical Society.

This year the plan is similar – although groups need to apply for the grants each year. The WBA urges any group in town that needs funding for special projects to apply early for a grant. The application is available at their Web site: www.waylandbusinessassociation.org

Tickets for the Thursday evening, Nov. 19 special WBA benefit performance of Sweeney Todd are on sale ($50 each; buy 5 and get 1 free) at The Village Bank in Wayland (see Patricia MacNeil, 617-467-6120) or from members of the WBA Executive Board.

The special evening at Vokes Theatre begins at 6 pm with cocktails and a silent auction. Showtime is 8 pm.

Background
The WBA was formed more than 30 years ago based on a mission of community support. In 2009, the Wayland Business Association grew to 99 members, and supported several community organizations with grants. The business group also changed its annual fundraising event from an auction to a night at a Vokes Theatre production.
