Wayland Girl competes at the Unites States Pony Club Championships 2009

Alaska Akbar, a freshman at Wayland High School and member of Jericho Forest Pony Club competed at the Unites States Pony Club Championships in Lexington, VA this summer. More than 1000 young athletes traveled to the Virginia Horse Park to compete in a variety of equine disciplines. From, Show jumping , dressage and eventing to more exotic ones like Polocrosse, Tetrathlon and Pony Games. Show jumping was the biggest discipline with 180 riders. Alaska was part of the New England Show jumping team with a borrowed pony called "Mombo".  She qualified for the 3 foot division which included 52 riders. Divisions are split by jumping heights. Most of the 4 day event is a team competition with one class bein judged as an individual equitation class. Alaska and Mombo took 7th individually out of 52 in her division having a clean round and a good time. The New England Show Jumping team took 4th place in the team standings (out of 28 teams)  which is very good as the riders who came from New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut had not jumped together as a team before.
