In October, pink’s the color of a cancer cure

Wayland Town Crier 10/1/09: In October, pink’s the color of a cancer cure. In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the seven daily and more than 100 weekly papers of GateHouse Media New England published on pink newsprint on October 1. WickedLocal Web sites across the state will also took on a rosy hue. It’s all part of a team effort between GateHouse Media New England, the American Cancer Society and We Got Soccer, Foxboro, to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness month and raise money for research. GateHouse will donate 10 cents from every pink newspaper that were sold in stores to the American Cancer Society on October 1 and $5 from any subscription purchased by credit card during October. Local businesses can contribute by purchasing a pink ribbon in their ad for $25, which will be donated to the American Cancer Society. The company will also donate 10 percent of advertising packages purchased as part of the campaign. “Paint the town pink” will also help promote the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Oct. 4 in Boston.
