Wayland Town Crier 9/8/09: Everyone invited to join Sudbury Valley New Horizons Band. “Oh, no! I could never do that!” or “I can’t read music!”

These are responses Diane Muffitt, Wayland Middle School’s band director, often hears when talking with people about learning an instrument and joining the Sudbury Valley New Horizons Band.

In reality, many of the band’s current members said the same thing when they joined – some had no clue what those little black marks on the paper sitting on their music stands meant – but now they are confidently playing scales, melodies and more, and are coming back again.
