Town reaches settlement of wastewater permit appeal

Wayland Town Crier 8/19/09:  Town reaches settlement of wastewater permit appeal.  A settlement agreement has been reached in the appeal of the permit to operate Wayland’s wastewater treatment facility. The U.S. Department of the Interior, on behalf of the National Park Service, filed an appeal in November 2008 of the permit issued by the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to discharge 52,500 gallons per day from the plant. Sudbury resident Thomas Arnold filed a separate appeal.  The cases before an administrative appeals board within EPA were consolidated in January 2009. Resolution of the permit appeal issues will allow the town to move forward with the planned replacement of its existing aging facility with a new state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant.
