Reporter Sean Murphy on Pension Abuse:  Veteran Boston Globe reporter Murphy will be at the library on Tuesday, September 15, at 7:00 p.m. to talk about his Globe series on pension abuses published during the last year.  Murphy will tell us how, while the vast majority of public pensions are well deserved, some officials have shamelessly scammed the system to enrich themselves.  He’ll walk us through the sleuthing involved in breaking these stories–including the sometime angry and sometimes bizarre encounters he experiences reporting on people who want nothing to do with him.  Murphy will hop-scotch from moments of tension to humor to poignancy to hope.  He’ll talk about the Beacon Hill culture, explain how some elected officials have been able to take advantage of the system, and discuss Governor Patrick’s call for reform and the Legislature’s response.
