Preview of Board of Selectmen Meeting for Monday, August 17

Preview from Town Administrator Fred Turkington:

The Board of Selectmen will meet on Monday (August 17) at 7:00 p.m. in Town Building.

Selectmen will hear a report from Betsy Connolly of the Master Plan Advisory Committee.  The group, comprised of representatives of boards and committees involved with the land use planning process, was appointed pursuant to a petitioner’s article at Town Meeting to review the implementation of the 2004 Master Plan of Development and to comment on the relevence of pending action items.  Ms. Connolly serves as the selectmen’s representative on the committee.

The Board will meet with members of the Community Preservation Committee and the Finance Committee at approximately 8:30 p.m. to discuss the allocation of funds toward eligible capital projects now part of the five-year capital plan.  A second topic to be discussed is the potential for using the local CPA funds to make bond payments for larger purchases to avoid the accumulating of CPA taxes for such expenditures.

The Finance Committee will remain and provide feedback to the selectmen on the impact of accepting the local option sales tax of 0.25% on meals and up to 2% on hotel charges.  Selectmen are considering whether to include an article on the fall Special Town Meeting Warrant to give citizens the option of accepting the tax revenue.

Selectmen will consider a request to banish an uncontrolled dog for repeated violations, review pending appointments to town boards and commissions, discuss potential timetables for the fall Special Town Meeting, hear an update on continuing discussion on collaboration with Sudbury and other neighboring towns, and review the request for proposals solicitation for construction of a pool facility on tow-owned land to be leased to a non-profit entity.

The complete agenda is available on the Town’s website.
