Weston’s Carbon Crunch Challenge

Weston’s FIRST Carbon Crunch Challenge, September – December 2009

Start the school year lean and green! Join the Carbon Crunch Challenge — a friendly competition among families to reduce electricity use and shrink our NSTAR bills.  The group’s aim is to raise awareness about our energy habits to help residents not only lower their utility costs but also become more environmentally conscious. Most people don’t even know how much they pay for a kilowatt-hour or the mix of power sources that generate our electricity locally.  The Carbon Crunch is intended to challenge families to communicate, cooperate and think differently about the ways in which they use power in their households.

The group’s hope is that by getting households involved in the Carbon Crunch, participants will see that there are many places where we waste power, and that by addressing our energy habits in the spirit of competition (and fun), we can collectively make a difference for the environment.

Join us at the kickoff party at the Weston Library on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. where we will share ideas on how to save on electricity. The challenge is also open to families from Wayland.  Our master of ceremonies will direct a quiz game for children and there will be refreshments (some crunchy) for all.  Bring your August NSTAR bill. We’ll meet one another, share concerns, and get tips on ways to reduce our electricity usage.

The contest will measure October and November reductions in kilowatt hours compared to last year. (Every NSTAR bill gives you a history of your kilowatt comsumption for a year.) Other categories will be winners too.  Register before September 27. Simply click here to email the group, and let them know your name & address.

Help recruit friends and neighbors. Encourage organizations and local businesses to enter the contest too!

Celebrate at the final party at the Library on Sunday, December 13 at 3pm.
