MetroWest School of Mathematics to hold grand opening

In celebration of its grand opening at its new location, the MetroWest School of Mathematics will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 3pm at 5 Auburn St. in Framingham, just around the corner from its former location.

The event will feature music by the mathematically themed Algorhythms, a number 9 celebration, math games, and a special ribbon cutting featuring a Mobius Strip (a mathematical ribbon). The event is free and open to the public.

Founded in 2003 by several Sudbury residents and currently under the direction of Dr. Anna Charny, the school is affiliated with and modeled after the successful program developed at the Russian School of Mathematics in Newton, providing quality education to children in grades K to 12.  Students take math, art, chess, language, and Math and English SAT preparation classes weekdays from 4 to 8:45 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with professionals from both academia and industry. A U.S. Chess Federation master heads the chess program.  Each class meets once per week during the school year, following the calendar of the Framingham public school system. Besides class instruction, the school also holds optional and age-appropriate math puzzle contests on a monthly basis, with prizes for everyone who participates. The school also participates in a national Math Olympiads, offering free tutoring for its students interested in competing in math contests.
