Wayland Town Crier 6/4/09: Facts about preventing Lyme Disease. As the spring transitions into summer, the risk of contracting Lyme Disease in Wayland and Weston is higher. Massachusetts, along with other states on the east coast, has a large number of Lyme Disease cases that is increasing annually. Between 2000 and 2007, Massachusetts went from 1,158 to 2,988 reported victims of Lyme Disease. While this 258 percent increase is alarming, these statistics do not account for many of the cases of Lyme Disease that go unreported each year.
