Wayland resident Alaska Akbar (13 years) qualified recently for the 2009 United States Pony Club Championhips to be held in Lexington, Virginia from July 22nd to the 26th, 2009. Alaska will represent the Central New England Region in the discipline Show Jumping. Alaska is member of the Jericho Forest Pony Club located in Wayland and will meet 1200 Pony club athletes in Virginia in July competing in various disciplines. Show jumping is one of the key competitions and many nationally and internationally recognized riders have emerged out of the ranks of the United States Pony Clubs.
