Donate used glasses and help disadvantaged people around the world

Adam Idels, a senior at Wayland High School and a member of Troop 1 Cochituate, is currently conducting his Eagle Service Project. He is leading his troop in collecting used eyeglasses and sunglasses for the Lions Club, to be distributed to disadvantaged people around the world.

The members of his troop are canvassing their neighborhoods, going door-to-door to generate support for the project. Idels has also placed Lions Clubs collection boxes in various stores in Wayland.

Millions of people in developing nations lack access to basic eye care services and corrective lenses. Poor vision profoundly affects their quality of life. For children, vision loss can lead to failure in school, delays in development and learning disabilities. For adults, uncorrected vision can lead to unemployment and the inability to support a family.

If you have used prescription or nonprescription glasses or sunglasses in your drawers, desks or closets, you can donate them now! Children’s glasses are especially needed. Both plastic and metal frames are accepted.
