Friday, November 13, Family Robotics Demo, Wayland High School Commons, 6:30-7:30pm

In our continuing efforts to introduce children to science, technology, and engineering, Wayland Recreation is offering a free family program on Robotics. Dan Hershey from iRobot Corporation will provide a history of robotics followed by an interactive demo with two “live” robots—a Roomba (we all know that smart little vacuum!) and an industrial sized one. See how robots can be programmed to do simple tasks and respond to changes in their environment. The Roomba will clean up a mess you help create, and the industrial robot will climb over obstacles using feedback from sensors to determine how to proceed. See how these amazing machines can be used for many applications, including situations too dangerous for humans. Dan is a mechanical engineer working for iRobot Corporation, based in Bedford. One of the company’s founders is an MIT grad and lives right here in Wayland.  For more information or to register, click here.  (This event is listed under "Special Events")   You may also register by calling 508-358-3664.
