In response to a Wayland Town Crier discussion board post, the School Committee has consistently said that the 2 1/2 school reconfiguration was:

  • enabled by an enrollment decline while preserving the educational program,
  • considered because the projected savings were larger than initially estimated,
  • desirable because of the impact on our operating budget and the override,
  • and in order to help preserve important co-curricular programs district-wide.

Any purported explanation that only picks off one or several of these factors is incomplete.
