Preview of the Monday, February 9, 2009 meeting agenda for the Board of Selectmen

Here is a preview of the Monday, February 9, 2009 meeting agenda for the Board of Selectmen.

Immediately after convening the meeting, the Board will open the Petitioner’s Workshop for Annual Town Meeting.  All lead petitioners have been invited to pose procedural questions, inquire about access to town counsel regarding motions, and connect with selectmen and FinComm assignees to their respective articles.  Following the workshop, the Finance Committee will present a recommendation for a debt exclusion ballot question.  An overview of the town’s financial position will be presented.  The presentation will be repeated as part of a public hearing on the debt exclusion question on March 9th (if the BOS votes to place the question on the ballot on March 2nd).

Selectmen will resume their discussion of the advanced life support / paramedic service proposal put forth by the ALS Committee.  Questions regarding capital costs, long-term budget and staffing implications of starting the per diem coverage, confirmation of operating costs assumptions, and participation in the program costs and revenues from neighboring towns will be discussed.  While funding has been included in the FinComm draft budget for FY10, the BOS has not yet approved the program.

The Board will discuss the informal work to date of citizens volunteering to provide perspective on energy conservation efforts, alternative energy initiatives, and the idea of integrating green building concepts into future municipal construction projects.  It is likely the BOS will appoint the interested citizens to a temporary advisory committee and assign specific projects and tasks that could benefit from their expertise and experience.

Lastly, selectmen will consider whether to open the warrant for a special town meeting within the Annual Town Meeting.  The meeting begins at 7pm at Town Building in the Selectmen’s Meeting Room.

NOTE:  The agenda, consent calendar and correspondence summary will be posted on our website www.wayland.ma.us by 10am on Monday.
