State Ways & Means Committees to Hold Hearing in Sudbury on FY 2011 Budget for Health and Human Services

State Representative Thomas P. Conroy is pleased to announce that on February 23, 2010, at the Sudbury Town Hall (322 Concord Road, Sudbury), he will be co-chairing a joint House and Senate Ways and Means Committee budget hearing on our Commonwealth’s provision of health and human services to vulnerable families and individuals.  The 10am hearing is open to the public.

Representative Conroy said, “I’m honored to serve as House co-chair of the hearing.  I appreciate the House leadership’s trust in me to apply a rigorous analytical approach to helping craft a prudent, responsible, and balanced budget for FY2011.”

In light of the current fiscal challenges facing the Commonwealth, the hearing is an opportunity to engage residents locally in state government issues, and to explain how residents’ tax dollars are spent.  The discussion will focus on FY 2011 funding of agencies under the umbrella of the state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services, and will highlight the challenges of cutting spending in the state budget and the importance of funding programs that serve disadvantaged populations.

Several of Governor Deval Patrick’s senior administration officials from the following state agencies will testify on FY 2011 funding issues and answer questions from House and Senate Ways and Means Committee members:

  • Department of Children and Families
  • Department of Youth Services
  • Department of Transitional Assistance
  • Department of Developmental Services
  • Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission
  • Massachusetts Commission for the Blind
  • Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
