Preview of the January 4, 2010 Board of Selectmen Meeting from Town Administrator Fred Turkington

The next regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen will be held on Monday, January 4th (tonight) in Town Building. After convening the meeting and receiving public comment, the Board will meet with Town Moderator Peter Gossels to discuss a number of procedural changes that have been suggested to improve Town Meeting and whether to adopt the Moderator’s suggestion to appoint a temporary study committee to explore electronic voting and other changes.

At 8pm, selectmen will hold a public hearing and consider the request of William Roberts for a beer and wine package store license at 131 Main Street. Mr. Roberts owns the building that is currently undergoing renovations that formerly housed Grape Ideas.

The Board will discuss the idea of establishing an economic development commission first included in the 2004 Master Plan of Development and recently suggested by the Finance Committee as part of the long-range fiscal strategy for 2010-2015. Selectmen will review similar bylaws from other towns.

About 9pm, selectmen will review correspondence, consider the consent calendar, and discuss projected meeting agenda items for the next several meetings. The Board will continue discussion of objectives and strategies for 2010 and review articles submitted for consideration for inclusion in the Annual Town Meeting Warrant.

The meeting begins at 7pm in the Selectmen's Meeting Room.
