Weston Drama Workshop announces shows for new season

Four exciting shows headline the 48th anniversary season of Weston Drama Workshop in 2010. There are many opportunities for singing, dancing, drama, comedy and ensemble parts. The workshop welcomes participants of all levels of theater ability and from all towns.

The Evening Program is for participants entering grade 9 through age 23. They will produce the musical play "Children of Eden" to be directed by Christopher Brindley.  Additionally, the Evening Program will produce "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." This Tony award-winning musical comedy is set at a fictional spelling bee at a generic middle school somewhere in an undefined Putnam County. It is a blend of quirky adolescent contestants and an equally comical, eccentric panel of adults. It is lively, engaging entertainment for all to enjoy.

The Morning Program is for participants entering grades 6, 7, 8 and 9. They will produce "Honk!" Based on "The Ugly Duckling," "Honk!" is a poignant musical comedy enjoyed by all ages. Abraham Mills will be returning for his sixth season directing the morning musical.  Additionally, Theater For Young Audiences, an afternoon drama program for participants of Morning Program-age, will produce "Alicia in Wonder Tierra." This story combines aspects of "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Wizard of Oz" as players travel along an amazing journey into Mexican culture and tradition. The production will be directed by Roxanne Schroeder-Arce, assistant professor of theater education at Emerson College.

The Technical Theater Program is for participants entering grade 9 through age 23. It includes lighting and sound, set design and construction, and stage management. Members of this program have specialty areas but work as a team, and by opening night they have the run of all four shows!

A brochure with information and a registration form will be available in January. Auditions will be in May, rehearsals begin in June, and performances will be in July. Rehearsals and performances will be at Regis College’s Fine Arts Center in Weston.  For more information call 781-893-1896 or visit www.westondramaworkshop.org
