“Booking It” in the Waiting Room seeks book donations

“Booking It” in the Waiting Room is a program that provides free books for patients in the waiting room of the Adolescent Clinic at Children’s Hospital Boston. The project was launched in January 2005 with the goal of promoting literacy by making books more accessible to adolescents, particularly those who may not otherwise have the resources to afford books. It has been noted that more than 60% of underprivileged children in the United States do not own a single book.

The program has been so successful that they are constantly running out of books in their waiting room.  In order to insure that this program continues to be successful, the clinic would greatly appreciate your support in getting more books through donations.  They are looking for new and good quality used books that are appropriate for adolescent boys and girls. They need general fiction, mysteries, science fiction, biographies, and autobiographies appropriate for teens at both the middle and high school levels.

If you have books to donate please email ellenchasen@gmail.com (or call her at at 508-358-4927) to make arrangements to drop them off at her home in Wayland.
