Dates for Seasonal Flu Clinics Announced by the Wayland Board of Health and the Wayland Medical Reserve Corps – MAY BE POSTPONED!

The Wayland Board of Health and Medical Reserve Corps have scheduled the annual seasonal flu clinics on Tuesday October 6th from 10am-1pm and 4-7pm, and again on Thursday October 15th from 1-4pm. HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE WE HAVE JUST LEARNED THAT THE STATE MAY DELAY SENDING SEASONAL FLU VACCINES DUE TO THE PUSH TO SUPPLY H1N1 VACCINES.  In this case, these clinics will be re-scheduled.  When this is confirmed, all clinics will be held in the Large Hearing Room at the Wayland Town Building.

These clinics are available to residents aged 60 and older, or for those aged 18 –59 who have a chronic medical health condition such as asthma or diabetes. Please bring your medical insurance cards.  No pre-registration required.

Please note there will be an additional vaccine specifically for the H1N1 (Swine Flu) strain, but this will most likely not be available until after the seasonal flu clinic.  The H1N1 vaccine may require two shots one month apart but this information is not confirmed at this time.  An announcement will follow as soon as the vaccine is made available by the state.

Finally, the Wayland Board of Health would like to point out that getting the pneumonia vaccine is one of the best ways to prevent this serious flu complication. The pneumonia vaccine is available by appointment only.   If you have not received a pneumonia shot within the last 5 years and would like one, please contact the Wayland Board of Health Office at 508-358-3617 to make an appointment.
