Wayland Boy Scout Troop One Cochituate is getting ready to kick off their 2009-2010 program

Attention Boys in 6th grade though 17 years of age:  Develop leadership and outdoor skills in a fun, friendly and safe environment with Boy Scout Troop 1 Cochituate.  We have some great activities planned for the coming year including camping, hiking and skiing trips and community service projects.

Wayland Boy Scouts, Troop 1 Cochituate will be starting their 2009/2010 program on Wednesday, September 16th at the Scout House adjacent to the Wayland Town Beach from 7-8:30pm!  Boys in sixth grade through 17 years of age are welcome and no prior Scouting experience is required.

Troop 1 is proud of our long history of encouraging the development of leadership and outdoor skills in a fun, friendly and safe environment. In fact, the troop was established in 1924 and is one of the oldest troops in the country.  A sampling of last year’s activities include hiking Mt. Frisell, the highest peak in Connecticut, visiting the Boston Harbor Islands, camping at Camp Resolute in Bolton, camping and hiking on Mt Monadnock, outdoor winter skills and camping at the Klondike Derby, skiing/snowboarding at Mt Cranmore in NH and community service projects such as cooking for Rosie’s Place and landscaping for the Parmenter Center.
The Boy Scout program encourages friendship, personal growth and community service while developing lifelong skills and leadership abilities!  Meetings are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Scout House located next to the Town Beach. For more information please contact Scoutmaster Kurt Straube at kastraube@hotmail.com or call him in the early evenings at 508-358-2639. Or, you may also contact Asst. Scoutmaster Michael Sakowich at 508-358-5336 for further information.
