Clearing up a valuable town trail

Wayland Town Crier 5/15/09: Clearing up a valuable town trail. Twenty Friends of the Wayland Rail Trail and the Historical Commission recently volunteered to clear the 3-mile trail and some historic railroad artifacts. In 1997, Wayland and several other towns approved the rail trail. The initiative was stalled when it was not approved in Weston. A recent significant development is that the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) announced its plans to work with local towns and groups to develop the abandoned rail line into a bike, equestrian and pedestrian path. "The rail trail is coming; it’s really a matter of when," said Kiernan. "The more local support and effort the sooner Wayland will have a formal recreational path." To learn more attend the "What’s Up with the Rail Trail?" meeting on Wednesday, May 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Public Safety Building. On June 17, "Walk to School Day" at Claypit Hill will involve many families walking along the improved trail.
