“We hope that the “The Wayland One Mile Swim” will be an annual event for our town.  If we are able to raise the money to build a community pool, we would expect to see a growing body of residents of all ages participating in this event in the near future.  We want our fundraising initiatives to reach out to all members of our community that understand and appreciate the tremendous need and value of a pool right here in Wayland,” remarks Benjamin Downs, Wayland Community Pool Chair.

The Wayland Community Pool is being privately funded and the Board has currently raised over half of the $2.5 million needed to begin construction of the project in March 2010.  Thermometer signs marking fundraising progress have been positioned at the major intersections around town.  For more information about the Wayland Community Pool, log on to www.waylandcommunitypool.org.

Sponsors of the “Wayland One Mile Swim” include KB Swim and Sports, Whole Foods Market and Starbucks.  Local merchants are providing prizes for top finishers in each age group.
