  1. Notice The event has been postponed until May 18 At 2:00pm
  2. Sunday, May 18 Dedication of Lokerville Green, West Plain and Commonwealth Rd., 2pm. George Lewis will be the speaker at the dedication of the Lokerville Green. The center of Lokerville Village was once on or near the triangle at the intersection of West Plain St. and Commonwealth Rd., opposite the Villa and Sunrise Assisted Living facility. Loker family members were among the original settlers in 1638. Some Lokers had moved south and were farming in this area well before 1721, when the land, now known as Cochituate, as annexed to our town. The Historical Society has photographs of the church and schoolhouse that once stood on the green. Lokerville remained the largest village in the southern part of Wayland until the rise of the shoe industry led to Cochituate's rapid growth in the last half of the 19th century. Jane Sciacca, Historical Society president, will introduce Mr. Lewis. A color guard will open and close the ceremony in recognition of the World War II memorial, which also shares the small triangle. Refreshments are planned. The rain date is May 18. The program is a cooperative effort of the Beautification Committee, the Historical Society, the Park & Recreation Commission and the Public Ceremonies Committee. Veterans Agent John Turchinetz are Town Surveyor Alfred Berry who has added "Lokerville Green" to the Town Atlas.
