| Candidate Statement:
I
look forward to continuing to work with the Board of
Health staff, fellow Board members and the public to
address the various issues, concerns and viewpoints that
come before the Board of Health. In addition, it is my
goal to work proactively to examine those concerns or
opportunities the Board determines may be important for
the Town to consider.

Candidate Statement: I'm a
litigation attorney who's been in private practice since
1987. I have tried cases throughout the state in
Superior Court, District Court, Probate and Family
Court, and Juvenile Court. Areas of expertise
include mental health, family, and criminal law.
In addition, I am the guardian for a number of mentally
ill and disabled persons. Also, I am routinely

antipsychotic medication and report to the Court as
guardian ad litem about matters involving extraordinary
medical care. I am also regularly appointed by the
court to investigate child abuse and neglect cases.
I've
enjoyed representing the community as a member of the
Board of Health for the past three years and hope to
have the opportunity to do so for another three years.

Candidate Statement: As many of you may have heard or read, I
have decided to run for another term as Moderator.
So let me tell you
something about my qualifications: I graduated Boston
Latin School and hold degrees from Harvard College and
Harvard Law School. After service in the U.S. Army, I
have practiced law in Boston since 1956, concentrating
in civil litigation, estate planning, probate and family
law, personal injury law as well as real estate,
conveyancing and municipal law.
I serve as Chair of the
Fee Disputes Committee of the Boston Bar Association, as
a hearing officer for the Massachusetts Board of Bar
Overseers, as a master of the Superior Court and have
contributed time and numerous articles designed to make
the court system more efficient and less costly. My
website (http://www.gosselslaw.com)
will tell you more about me than you will want to know.
After serving on
Wayland’s Finance Committee, I served as Wayland’s Town
Counsel for eleven years and subsequently as its special
counsel until my election as Moderator. Since my
election, I have instituted important innovations,
including:
- I codified and
published the rules governing Wayland’s Town Meetings
in every warrant and published a handbook explaining
town meeting procedures in more “user friendly”
language;
- I created workshops
that welcomed suggestions from the public designed to
improve town meeting procedures;
- I set time limits that
have cut the time needed to debate articles nearly in
half;
- Opponents of the main
motion under every article now have an opportunity and
equal time to present their arguments;
- Those offering a main
motion that differs from the text of the article by
more than 25 words must now provide a printed copy to
everyone at town meetings; and
- I authorized Channel 9
to broadcast our town meetings live, so that those who
were unfamiliar with Wayland’s government might be
encouraged to learn and participate.
In summary, I have tried
to conduct our town meetings in a fair, impartial manner
that respects the rights and contributions of all those
who participate, whether they be seasoned town officials
or newcomers to the town. With your support, I plan to
serve as Wayland’s Moderator for another term.
Thank you. |
Candidate Statement:
My name is Bruce Cummings
and I am running as a write-in candidate for the Wayland
Board of Assessors (3 year term).
My wife Susan and I moved
to Wayland almost three years ago with our two children
Sara (9) and Adam (7). We were primarily attracted to
Wayland because of the reputation of the schools and
believe our children truly need the best we have to
offer. It is a cliché, but our children truly represent
the future strength of this country and deserve the best
investment we can offer them.
Unfortunately Wayland,
like most other towns, faces increasing financial
constraints which threaten the foundation of our town
services. I believe my financial service background and
experience makes me well suited to continue to serve on
the Wayland Board of Assessors. If elected to the 3 year
term, I will work to improve the operation, management
and the effectiveness of the Board of Assessors
department.
So far the current fiscal
challenges, I support this year’s proposed 2 ½ override
at it provides critical funding for the services needed
by all our residents.
On April 8th, I ask for
your support by writing me in for the 3 year Board of
Assessors position.
Thank you. |
Candidate Statement:
My name is John Knapp and
I am running as a write-in candidate for the Wayland
Board of Assessors (1 year term).
My
wife Liza and I moved to Wayland in 2004 from
Connecticut. At the time, we had two young
children (we are now fortunate to have three).
Although I grew up on the South Shore of Massachusetts
and wasn’t familiar with the Wayland area, our research
quickly brought us here based on the town’s tremendous
reputation for education, community and recreation.
Since moving to Wayland, we have met many wonderful
families who came to this town for the same reasons and
want to ensure that their children have the best
educational system available.
Losing
some of the services that make Wayland so attractive
will have both immediate and long-term implications.
Despite the difficult financial environment, it is
critical that we continue to invest in senior and safety
services, as well as our schools. Having worked
with Fortune 100 companies for the past 15 years, I
believe that I possess the financial and management
skills necessary to effectively partner with the members
of the Board of Assessors and other town officials.
In
order to maintain Wayland’s reputation for community and
education, I am in support of the proposed 2½ override
at it provides critical funding for the services needed
by all of our residents.
On
April 8th, I ask for your support by writing
me in for the 1 year Board of Assessors position.
Thank
you.
