Candidates for Board of Health in April 2007 Elections

This race has no candidates on the ballot;  there are two write-in candidates for one position.

Note:  To vote for a person whose name is not printed on the ballot, write the candidate’s name and address on the line provided and completely fill in the oval to the right of their name.

William Currier Dr. Arnold Soslow

Educational Background:

  • Harvard College

  • Harvard Business School

Educational Background:

  • Hahnemann University School of Medicine, 1970

Candidate Statement:

Bill Currier has extensive knowledge in all phases of waste disposal and recycling in depth. Wayland is now faced with closing our landfill in the very near future due to the uncontrolled receipt of contractor materials by the previous landfill supervisor working for the Board of Health. It is essential that this new process be organized carefully by a board with extensive planning and management to avoid another economic disaster. The current Board of Health has essentially none of the above skills or knowledge.  Currier is a graduate of both Harvard and the Harvard Business school and has owned and directed several small companies in diverse industries including the founding of one of Massachusetts first post consumer plastics recycling companies. All but one of his companies was acquired by him in or near bankruptcy. In all cases his management turned  these companies successfully into profitable operations. His talents should allow the town a smooth efficient and economical transition to a transfer station mode of operation similar to those of Wellesley and Needham with which Currier is very familiar. His election will bring much needed talent and experience to the Board of Health during this major change in handling our waste and recycling processes and will most likely do so at significantly lower cost than if handled by novices.

His previous experience on Highway, Planning Board and Finance committee in Wayland and/or Sherborn will also be helpful for other Health matters.
