Phoebe Morss Runs Well at Nationals

Competing for the Nitehawks Sports Club at the AAU National Cross-Country Championships, Wayland sixth grader Phoebe Morss finished in eleventh place. This is the best finish ever for a Nitehawk at a national cross-country championship. The event was held in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Saturday, December 1.
Phoebe is eleven years old and attends the Wayland Middle School. She completed the three kilometer (1.86 miles) course in a personal best time of 11:25, an average pace of 6:07 per mile. Phoebe also won the Mayor’s Cup for her age group earlier this fall.
Coach Eric Bucher remarked after the race, “I am very pleased with the Phoebe’s stellar performance. She has worked very hard this season and came through today with an outstanding race. Phoebe has a great attitude and strong competitive spirit.”
The Nitehawks are now moving on to the winter track and field season, with practices on Monday and Thursday evenings at the Wayland High School field house from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.
The Nitehawks Sports Club provides a year-round program of cross-country and track for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 18. The practice and meet schedule is flexible and always open to new members. For more information on the club you can visit the team website at www.thenitehawks.org.
